Making Cents of Your Money

Instructions for ALL Modules

First and Foremost, you need to remember that this course was designed for YOU.  How you approach this course is entirely up to you.  You may proceed at your own pace.  Please participate in the discussions, as they may be the most valuable tool for you in this process.  New material is being put on the website constantly, and feel free to make suggestions via the forums, or you may email me directly.

Enjoy & Happy learning!

Suggestions for Course Completion.

  1. Start with the readings in each module.
  2. Look over the resources.
  3. Complete the worksheets with your teenager.
  4. Write your responses to the questions in the module forum.

Check-in on the forum a few times during the week to participate in the discussions. Many of our participants say that discussing the issues with other parents is the most meaningful element of the course. The forums are visible only to the people who are taking the course at the same time you are.

Welcome to Making Cents of Your Money, the first of three modules in this course.

During this time of increasing family financial pressure, growing college costs and decreased availability of jobs for young people, this topic is extremely relevant for many families. Your participation in this module will help you:

  • Talk with your son or daughter about saving, credit cards and student debt.
  • Discuss the issues surrounding participation in live or on-line gambling, which is legal for only those 18 and older.
  • Set up a budget and develop practical financial skills with your teen.

Now that you have a basic understanding of how the course will operate and what information will be available, please proceed below to the first section of Module 1, College Students Living Beyond their Means.
