Entertaining Risk

Welcome to Module 3, Entertaining Risk vs. Excitement.
Your student has an adventure ahead of them in this exciting time of transitioning from their safe haven at home to a new phase of freedom and independence. A big part of that transition is FUN! In fact, if we take the time to discuss these issues before the kids leave home, it will create an open atmosphere that will make it easier for them to ask for advice once they're on their own.  This module will discuss several issues where fun can go awry and lead to immediate danger or to long-term problems, advice parents can offer and what are reasonable expectations for young, independent adults.  Each parent or family has their own history, standards and values, but this module contains advice from experts that will guide you to communicate effectively with your student about some difficult topics.
  • social life, campus rules and community laws
  • underage drinking, binge drinking and alcohol poisoning
  • drug use for fun, relaxation or focus
  • sexual harrassment, and how it affects both genders
  • dating violence, rape, stalking
  • problem gambling
